Ian Viner AO QC
The Hon. Ian Viner, AO QC is a former Member of the Commonwealth Parliament and Minister in the Fraser Government. He was appointed an Officer the Order of Australia in 1999. He is a Past President of the Western Australian Bar Association (2001-2004) and of the Australian Bar Association (2005-2006).
He was a part-time member of the National Native Title Tribunal (1995,96). Mr Viner undertook the Harvard Law School course in Mediation and Advanced Negotiation under Professor Robert Fisher. He has practiced in a wide-range of litigation in trial and appellate jurisdictions in the High Court of Australia, Federal Court of Australia and in the Supreme Courts of WA, Vic and NSW, including, for example in the High Court, Mandurah Enterprises v WAPC [2010] HCA 2; civil litigation and native title mediation, negotiation and determination in the Federal Court of Australia; diverse litigation in the Supreme Courts including, in WA, the bushfire case, Southern Properties v CALM [2006] WASC 40; and in the District Court of WA for victims of the Gracetown cliff collapse tragedy, as well as victims of major acquired brain damage and other severe injury in personal injury and medical negligence; and in professional disciplinary tribunals.
